EAT IT
EAT IT is a way of serving finger food straight from the supermarket shelves. Compared to the current plastic packages, it increases the friendly and hospitable ambiance of eating finger food and emphasizes the quality of the food. Especially with the glass on glass connection of the lid and the bowl!
Eat it arose from the question from glass factory O-I to come up with a product that would give them new production possibilities. Their main criteria was that the sales should be high enough to fit 24/7 production.
My input for the research started at the user site. With use of a sensitizing booklet participants were triggered to think about glass in their daily life. After one week participants were paired to discuss the findings in the booklet during an interview. The results were translated into an inspiring booklet called why to love glass.

During the next phases I executed a research on the perception of food in glass compared to food in other packaging materials. I facilitated a creative session for input from outside our design team next to the brainstorm session we had. With the results I created a prototype and tested that with multiple users.
The first glass on glass packaging is the result. A simple but effective bowl with a glass lid that emphasizes the quality and specialness of eating finger food with friends or family.

Currently EAT IT is in development at O-I.

SHADOW LAMP
To experience designing in a development country and to be able to design a product that really adds value to ones life, I did a project for Thanh Ha, a terracotta pottery village in Vietnam with as a result the customizable shadow lamp.
The project followed up one that identified outlets on the hotel and resort market. The process consisted of interviews with the craftsmen and hotel owners and creative sessions with tourists. A main insight was the absence of proud in the work of the craftsmen. With a co-creation session we involved craftsmen in the design of patterns of the lamp. The final catalog consisted of multiple designs, every piece as a signature of a specific craftsman.
In cooperation with a craftsman a prototype was created. From this model improvements were discussed with them.
Currently the product is being finalized in Vietnam. Together with some other new products it will be put on the market in 2014.

LEKKER MAKKELIJK
Lekker makkelijk is a recipe book that gives parents grip on  to cook a small, fast and healthy bite for their children before they have to go to sport or hobby. After that they can take the time to prepare a main dish with the same ingredients for the rest of the family.
Through interviews and in house visits with middle class, higher educated families it was discovered that their overall food habits are really healthy. The only pitfall is the moment where time lacks, the mom comes home at 17.15 after work and the child has to go to sport at 17.45. Cup-a-soup with bread was an easy but less healthy solution. Lekker makkelijk stimulates and educates parents at this moment and gives them a feeling of control.
Multiple user tests have let to this product.

SMALL ASSIGNMENT: EMOTION
How can this alarm encourage users?
One of the things that gives courage is the memory of something that went well. Whenever something that gave fear went well, take the alarm clock to record the song that is played at that moment. In a moment of fear play one of the songs that was recorded at a courage-full moment. This memory of a moment in the past will give  the courage to handle fear at that moment, feeling stronger due to the memory that ended well.

DIP KOOB
Dip Koob is an idea arrived from the Iranian Goosht Koob. With the assignment to take a tool from another culture and place it into the Dutch culture the dip koob was born.
Goosht koob is originally used in a lentil, beef dish where men use it to mash the whole dish.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hk6gF6QpMc (time:5.36)

In the Dutch context it should be more suitable for women which turned into a tapas dish served in bars. When ordering you get a bowl with fresh ingredients like olives, pine nuts and some olive oil together with the dib koob, a tool made of bread. Take the dib koob and start making your own tapenade, it softens the bread and you’re ready to eat. Taking different ingredients everyone can has its own bread but try others’ tapenade.

EAT IT
EAT IT is a way of serving finger food straight from the supermarket shelves.
